What does a Sumobot do?
Students apply their knowledge of constructing and programming LEGO® MINDSTORMS® robots to create sumobots—strong robots capable of pushing other robots out of a ring.
How do the EV3 sensors control an autonomous robot?
Sensors provide robots with information about their environment. With the sensors that come with the EV3, you can make a robot respond to being touched, react when someone or something comes too close, follow a line, or measure how far they have turned.
Can Sumos punch?
Punching, gouging, and kicking are prohibited, but slapping and tripping are allowed. It is legal to grab the “mawashi” (sumo belt) anywhere around the waist, but not in the groin area.
How does Lego Gyro Sensor work?
The digital EV3 Gyro Sensor measures the robot’s rotational motion and changes in its orientation. Students can measure angles, create balancing robots, and explore the technology that powers a variety of real-world tools such as Segway®, navigation systems, and game controllers.
Are Sumos fat?
Sumo wrestlers eat up to 7,000 calories a day and weigh as much as 400 pounds. Yet they don’t suffer from heart attacks, strokes, or other symptoms of obesity.
Can you choke in sumo?
Choking: It’s fine to thrust at the throat, but no gripping the throat or choking with the arm.
What is the sumobot challenge?
Sumobot Challenge: Assess each group’s performance in the sumobot challenge using the following rubric (maximum 30 points). The LEGO robot design was relatively heavy, which reduces the robot speed, but increases the momentum. (10 points maximum).
What are the rules for the LEGO SUMO challenge?
LEGO-based Sumo Challenge. The Rules. One minute will be allowed for setup and calibration before each round. The LEGO robot must fit within the 18 x 18 cm starting box and weigh a maximum of 500 grams (the weight effectively excludes Handy Board robots). The maximum number of motors is two.
