What is Basolan wool?
Basolan wool is produced by DCCA treatment, resulting in the characteristics of being shrink-resistant, lustrous, low scaling, friction resistant, pliant, bright, soft and fluffy. The market positioning of Basolan wool is a mid to high end product that requires extra care in hand washing.
How is wool made washable?
The conventional method of achieving washable wool involves chlorine, chemical polymers, and lots of water and energy. The fibers are treated with chlorine and coated with a polyurethane polymer that modifies and enables them to slip past one another without interlocking.
How is wool treated?
Wool fibers are treated with 6–8% owf of PMS at pH 5–8 and then treated with a silicone resin (3–5% owf). An example of this process is the Dylan X process, but the treatment is not as effective as the chlorine-Hercosett process.
