What is CMD Arete?
The CMD Arete is the classic hill walker’s ascent of Ben Nevis that should be on every mountain walker’s tick list along side Crib Goch, The Snowdon Horseshoe and Striding Edge up Helvellyn. It never gets harder than a Grade 1 scramble, with enough exposure to add excitement.

This is a very challenging route for the experienced hiker. The route takes in exposed ridges and pathless boggy terrain as you make your way up and down the famous summit. The trail starts along an exposed open climb before reaching the very technical graded scramble up the Carn Mor Dearg Arete.

What is the hardest route up Ben Nevis?

There are two main walking routes up Ben Nevis. The Mountain Track (sometimes called the Tourist Track or the Pony Track) is used by most walkers, whilst the Carn Mor Dearg Arête route presents a more challenging climb for more experienced hikers.

It’s not technically difficult, but it is a long route, so you will need to be reasonably fit. The plateau isn’t the easiest of places to navigate, so it’s best to wait for a day when it’s likely to be clear. Try to do it on a still day, as there is some exposure.

Which is harder Snowdon or Ben Nevis?
In general, summiting Ben Nevis is a challenging walk that’ll likely prove more difficult than reaching the peak of Snowdon. It’s a considerably longer climb and has no equal in the whole of the UK when it comes to sheer size and elevation gain.
Is there toilets on Ben Nevis?
There are toilets at the Visitor Center you can use but they are only available during the Center’s opening hours. There are NO TOILETS on Ben Nevis itself.
Can dogs go up Ben Nevis?

Yes, of course. If you are in real difficulty you can telephone the Emergency Services, however, there is no guarantee you will get a phone signal at all as coverage on Ben Nevis is patchy or that they will be able to reach you in time. Helicopters, for example, cannot fly rescue operations in low cloud or high winds.
