The CMD Arete is the classic hill walker’s ascent of Ben Nevis that should be on every mountain walker’s tick list along side Crib Goch, The Snowdon Horseshoe and Striding Edge up Helvellyn. It never gets harder than a Grade 1 scramble, with enough exposure to add excitement.

This is a very challenging route for the experienced hiker. The route takes in exposed ridges and pathless boggy terrain as you make your way up and down the famous summit. The trail starts along an exposed open climb before reaching the very technical graded scramble up the Carn Mor Dearg Arete.

There are two main walking routes up Ben Nevis. The Mountain Track (sometimes called the Tourist Track or the Pony Track) is used by most walkers, whilst the Carn Mor Dearg Arête route presents a more challenging climb for more experienced hikers.
